On Saturday, as the pair were traveling on US 169 in Kansas from Norman around 4 p.m., their 2013 Hyundai Santa Fe was struck head-on by a Chevy Camaro that had veered into their lane. The impact was devastating, and the Camaro then careened back into the southbound lane, colliding with a 2012 Dodge Ram. Tragically, Connor, who was driving the Hyundai, was pronounced dead at the scene, while his mother, Megan, was rushed to the hospital in critical condition. The driver of the Camaro, Joseph Savage, 45, also lost his life in the wreckage.

According to Connor's uncle and Megan's brother, Colin Barnett, the young man had tried to swerve and slam on the brakes in a desperate attempt to avoid the collision. "Connor swerved right in a way and slammed on the brakes as hard as he could," Barnett said. "When Connor did that, he took the full brunt of the car of the Camaro."
